Our Focus

We believe the key to our community’s advancement is the partner organizations with whom we are privileged to work.

We look to find strong leaders in organizations who understand the community need and commit all of their energy and efforts to addressing the issues with innovative thinking, smart strategies, and proven results.  We have focused our areas of giving to the following: Improving Community, Inspiring Youth, Enriching Education, and Promoting Health.

Signature Gifts

The Kemmons Wilson Center for Good Grief

Our first signature gift was to Baptist Memorial HealthCare to launch the Kemmons Wilson Center for Good Grief. After years of being a funder of Camp Good Grief, a counseling program offered to children and families who had lost a loved one, the Wilson family was approached to make the lead gift in the capital efforts to create a center adjacent to the new hospice house.  The family unanimously agreed this was the right partnership and is proud to be actively engaged with Baptist and the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief where individuals and families receive free counseling and programming to manage their grief.

The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management

In an effort to honor the final gift of the founder, Kemmons Wilson, KWFF announced a gift of $1M in 2013 to ensure the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management grows and strengthens its programming. Kemmons built and gifted the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis to allow the University to build a Hotel and Resort Management program.

West Cancer Center

In 2015, the KWFF Board announced a gift of $500,000 to the West Cancer Center.  Dr. Bill West, married to Carole West, has led the efforts to establish this state of the art facility specializing in adult cancer care.

Shelby Farms Park Conservancy

Also in 2015, the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy was awarded an additional $250,000 to help complete the comprehensive campaign to rebuild the park's amenities for the 1 million visitors who come to the park each year. Scheduled to open the summer of 2016, the lobby of the Visitor's Center will be named in honor of the Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation.
